# Tutorial: connect an MCP server to the Enydea agent

> Add a public MCP server in Settings, allow only its read-only tools, let the Enydea AI agent use one, and find the call in the log. About 15 minutes.

## Goal

Connect an MCP server to the Enydea AI agent, switch on only the tools that look things up, ask the agent a question that uses one of them, and find that call in the log. This takes about 15 minutes.

The example uses DeepWiki, a public MCP server that answers questions about open-source code on GitHub and needs no key. The steps are the same for any MCP server.

## What you need

- A company admin account in Enydea. Other team members cannot manage MCP servers.
- An active subscription. Each agent run counts as AI usage.
- An MCP server address. For this tutorial: `https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp`. For your own system: the `https://` address and, if needed, an API key from its provider.

> **Note:** DeepWiki is run by another company. Its tools and their names can change; the names below are examples.

## Steps

### Add the server

1. Select the gear icon at the bottom of the sidebar to open **Settings**. Open the **Integrations** tab and scroll down to **MCP servers**.
2. Select **Add MCP server**.
3. Enter `DeepWiki` as the **Name** and `https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp` as the **Server URL (https)**.
4. Set **Authentication** to **None**. With the default, **Bearer token**, the server is refused because a token is required.
5. Leave **Max calls per agent run** at 20 and select **Connect**.
6. A message says how many tools were found, all switched off until you allow them. The server appears in the list.

For your own system, choose **Bearer token** or **Custom header** in step 4 and paste the key in **Token / API key**.

### Allow the read-only tools

7. Select the **DeepWiki** row to open its panel. Read the tool list: each tool has a description and its inputs, and every policy says **Off**.
8. Select **Allow read-only tools**. DeepWiki labels none of its tools, so Enydea goes by the names: tools whose names do not start with a word such as create, send or delete become **Allowed**.
9. Check the list. Each allowed tool now shows its agent name, for example `mcp__deepwiki__ask_wiki_question`. Set any tool you do not want back to **Off**.

### Ask the agent

10. Select **AI** at the bottom right of the screen and switch the panel from **CHAT** to **AGENT**.
11. Type: "Use DeepWiki to explain in five bullet points what the GitHub repository angular/angular is for." Press Enter.
12. While the agent works, the panel shows each step and the tool it calls. When it is done, the answer ends with the number of steps and the tools it used.

### Find the call

13. Go back to **Settings** -> **Integrations** -> **MCP servers**. Close the **DeepWiki** panel and open it again.
14. Expand **Recent calls**. The newest row shows the time, the tool, `ok`, the duration and the arguments the agent sent, such as the repository name.

## Check your work

- The **DeepWiki** row shows a green check icon and how many tools are on.
- The agent's answer lists a tool that starts with `mcp__deepwiki__`.
- **Recent calls** has a row with `ok`. If it says `error`, the row shows the reason. If the server shows an error line after **Connect**, fix the authentication in its panel and select **Refresh tools**. For a wrong URL, select **Remove** and add the server again.

## Next steps

- Connect your own system. Start with **Allow read-only tools**. Set tools that create, send or delete things to **Ask to confirm**, or leave them **Off**.
- Let a scheduled task use the tools. See [AI Assistant and AI Agents](https://enydea.com/en/documentation/ai-assistant-and-agents.md).
- When you are done testing, select **Turn all off** or **Remove**.
- Read the details, limits and security notes in [MCP servers](https://enydea.com/en/documentation/agent-mcp-servers.md).
